Authentic Wild News of the World
A survey found around 20 endangered Ganges river dolphins surviving in the heavily polluted Buriganga River. Researchers believe the dolphins may be feeding on pollution-tolerant fish, but contaminated water and heavy boat traffic remain serious threats
Teams across The Texas A&M University System are working to help people in Texas and beyond address the pest’s reemergence and protect pets and livestock.
Climate Impact
Riparian areas, those lush green zones along creeks, are among the most important habitats in the West. Riparian areas support 70–80 percent of the West’s wildlife. They also help regulate water flow, acting like a sponge that soaks up water and slowly releases it throughout the summer. Healthy riparian areas are critical wildlife corridors that connect the arid portions of the West. Riparian vegetation traps sediment and pollutants and helps to maintain water quality.
Zebra
Think about all the places you visit in a day. The ability to move, find food, water, shelter, and connect with other people is essential to your well-being. Animals depend on a similar freedom of movement to survive. When their habitats become fragmented by roads, fences, or settlements, it becomes harder for animals to find everything they need to survive. By studying wildlife movements—a field known as movement ecology—scientists gain critical insights into how species use landscapes.
Elephant
Elephants have long been treasured in Arunachal Pradesh’s folklore and cultures. However, as rapid infrastructure growth, settlement expansion, and land-use change intensify, interactions between people and elephants are becoming more frequent and more complex.
These rising interactions pose significant challenges for both elephants and people.
Conservation
The Story: In a massive victory for endangered species, the wild tiger population in Nepal has more than tripled, highlighting the success of dedicated anti-poaching efforts and programs promoting coexistence between local communities and wildlife.
